Spain imposed nearly 143 million euros in penalties on gambling operators in 2024

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs penalises 26 operators in the online gambling and betting sector during the second half of the year.

Over the past year, the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030 has imposed sanctions amounting to nearly 143 million € (142,721,000 €) on various operators in the online gambling and betting sector operating in Spain. In the second half of 2024, penalties on companies in the sector amounted to more than 77 million € (77,396,000 €), which when added to the fines imposed in the first half of the year amounting to 65,325,000 €, results in almost 143 million € in penalties for the whole of 2024.

The penalties for the second half of 2024 were imposed on 26 gambling operators, of which 14 were foreign operators operating in Spain without a licence, which is classified as a very serious infringement under the Gambling Regulation Act. As a result, one repeat offender was fined a total of 10 million euros and 5 million euros for the rest of the operators. In addition to the financial fine, the Ministry also sanctioned them with the closure of their web portals and the disqualification of the operators for a period of two years.

According to the Ministry's website, the 14 foreign operators sanctioned for very serious infringements are Wot NV, Magicwin games tech LTD, Winbet NV, Spicyjactpos games tech LTS, Lama tech limited, Chestoption limited liability company, Pennytech holding BV, Group gaem BV, Mibs NV, Fgs software solutions S.R.L, Investan NV, Tinietech holding B.V, Adonio N.V and Techsolutions group N.V.

In addition, during the second half of 2024, the Ministry sanctioned 12 other companies that, although they did operate with a licence in Spain, incurred in some type of infringement of the law. The infringements they committed were considered serious and resulted in fines of around 3 million € (2,396,000 €). In this case, the sanctioned companies published by the Ministry on its website are Millonapp SL, Casumo Spain PLC, Bingosoft PLC, Wagerfair SA, Media 24, Juegos de azar y servicios S.L, Conespa solutions, TSG interactive PLC, Whg Spain PLC, Fpoocl S.A and 888 online games España SA.
