The European Consumer Centre in Spain (ECC-Spain) has published a new edition of its Newsletter featuring the latest legislative developments, institutional initiatives and recommendations relating to the protection of consumer rights at European level.

Among the highlights of this Newsletter are the new EU rules that, from 27 September, will strengthen information on product guarantees. The measures, promoted by the European Commission under the Directive on empowering consumers for the green transition, establish a mandatory notice on the legal guarantee and a voluntary label for the commercial durability guarantee, known as EU GARAN, for manufacturers offering a commercial durability guarantee that exceeds the minimum legal guarantee. The aim is to enable consumers to make more informed purchasing decisions, encourage more durable products and contribute to more sustainable consumption.

The Newsletter also provides information on the new €3 EU tariff applicable to certain consignments of goods from outside the European Union with a value not exceeding €150. The measure applies to distance purchases, and the tariff is not calculated per parcel but per category of product included in the delivery.

Another feature covers the international investigation into influencer marketing, in which the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030 participated, conducted by the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN). The analysis shows that only one in five content creators consistently identifies the commercial nature of their posts.

The publication also includes information on the right to repair, one of the key European measures aimed at promoting a more sustainable consumption model. The new rules establish obligations for manufacturers concerning the repair of products, with the aim of ensuring that repairs are accessible, affordable and carried out within a reasonable period of time.

Finally, this edition includes information on the updated rights of air passengers, as well as other developments of interest to consumers who purchase goods or contract services in other European Union countries.

The ECC-Spain Newsletter is an information resource covering the latest developments in European consumer protection and consumer rights, particularly in relation to cross-border purchases.
